Job summary

Teaching Personnel in the Bury area is seeking an experienced Specialist SEN Support Worker to support pupils across primary and secondary settings with SEN and SEMH needs. You will work with teachers and the wider team to promote academic, social and personal development.

The role requires 1:1 and small-group support, calm and consistent approaches, strong behaviour management, and collaboration with SENCOs and external professionals. A DBS and right to work in the UK are required.

We are currently seeking an experienced and committed Specialist SEN Support Worker to join a specialist school in the Bury area, supporting pupils across both primary and secondary schools,

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role

As a Specialist SEN Support Worker, you will provide targeted support to pupils with a range of additional needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to promote pupils' academic, social, emotional and personal development.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEN and SEMH needs.
• Supporting pupils to access learning and engage positively within the school environment.
• Developing positive, professional relationships with pupils based on trust, consistency and clear boundaries.
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, social development and behaviour management.
• Implementing individualised support strategies and following pupil support plans.
• Responding calmly and appropriately to incidents of dysregulation or challenging behaviour.
• Promoting independence, resilience, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals where appropriate.
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, professional conduct and pupil welfare.
• Contributing to a positive, structured and nurturing school environment.

About You

We are looking for a professional who is calm, resilient, empathetic and consistent, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may present with complex needs.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
• A strong understanding of positive behaviour support and effective boundaries.
• The confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A patient, proactive and solution-focused approach.
• A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.

Experience within a specialist SEN school, mainstream school, residential care, youth work, education, healthcare or similar setting would be highly advantageous.

Relevant qualifications in SEN, Education, Supporting Teaching & Learning, Health & Social Care, Behaviour Support or a related field are desirable.
