We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and passionate Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Adult Community Learning Disabilities Team based at Alfred Bean Hospital in Driffield. The successful candidate will work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team providing assessments and treatments to adults with a learning disability and often complex needs.

We are a well-established small team of friendly, motivated and committed individuals. You will receive regular individual supervision, CPD, training and support within the role to help transfer your skills and develop competencies in this specialist field.

For this role, you must have the ability to commute effectively across the geographical patch.

Main duties of the job

1. Manage a caseload of service users with complex needs, using evidence-based/client-centred principles.
2. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions to enhance the quality of life for the patient. Interventions will include psychosocial and physical health/equipment interventions as well as more specialist work such as using a sensory-based approach.
3. Use standardised and non-standardised assessments to ascertain patients' care needs and inform intervention.
4. Assess for and prescribe appropriate equipment and advise on moving and handling.
5. Contribute to the wider MDT working and interventions such as positive behavioural support.
6. Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of Occupational Therapy Services. Provide outcomes for the service and service users by using agreed tools/assessments.
7. Contribute to the development and maintenance of Occupational Therapy within the Trust. Ensure OT provision is delivered in accordance with HCPC and Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) requirements.
8. Provide supervision for junior staff.

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent, approved by the HCPC.
• Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, and guidance relevant to clinical and service area.
• Specialist understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards, and protocols within identified clinical area.
• Knowledge/experience of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) techniques.

Experience

• Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care.
• Experience of multi-agency/professional working.
• Evidence of promoting/supporting active patient/relative involvement/participation.
• Experience of working in a community setting.
• Experience of working with adults with a learning disability.

Skills and Competencies
