Job summary

Southwark Council is seeking a Special Projects Contract Manager to lead safety-critical contracts covering external wall systems across a large residential portfolio. The role supports building safety compliance, risk mitigation and remediation, including FRAEWs, spandrel panels, render/facade assessments and Fire Risk Assessments.

6-12 month duration with end-to-end procurement responsibility. You will coordinate exploratory works, manage contractor performance and budgeting, and lead funding

• Significant contract management experience in construction, housing or building safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end procurement of exploratory works contracts (Gateway 1/2 reports, specifications, tendering, mobilisation).
• Oversee contractor performance, KPI management, and budget/financial control.
• Support legal claims against contractors/developers for defective wall systems and manage funding applications (Cladding Safety Scheme).

Job description

Southwark Council is seeking a Special Projects Contract Manager to lead safety-critical contracts covering external wall systems (EWS) across a large residential portfolio, starting on a 6-12 month basis. The role oversees exploratory and investigative works supporting building safety compliance, risk mitigation and remediation, including FRAEWs, spandrel panel investigations, render/facade assessments and Fire Risk Assessments. Responsibilities include end-to-end procurement of exploratory works contracts (Gateway 1/2 reports, specifications, tendering, mobilisation), contractor performance and KPI management, budget and financial control, supporting legal claims against contractors/developers for defective wall systems, and leading applications to the Cladding Safety Scheme and other funding streams. Candidates should have significant contract management experience within construction, housing, or building safety, strong knowledge of external wall systems and fire safety regulations, and proven procurement and commercial/legal stakeholder management skills within a social housing environment.
