Job summary

Averna powered by Spherea in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced software engineer to develop software for test, measurement, simulation and control systems. You will work with instrumentation, data acquisition hardware and units under test, supporting the full lifecycle from requirements through acceptance and into service.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND in software engineering, computer science, electronic engineering, systems engineering or related discipline.
• Experience developing software for engineering, industrial, scientific or equipment-based applications.
• Proficiency with at least one language or environment such as C/C++, C#, LabVIEW, TestStand or Python.
• Understanding of software architecture and structured design; debugging and testing in engineering settings.
• Familiarity with source control and configuration management, documentation and test evidence.
• Understanding of the development lifecycle from requirements through release.
• Strong problem-solving, initiative and ability to understand complex tech.
• Effective teamwork and clear communication; confident with customers and cross-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage work, report progress, meet commitments and adapt to technologies.
• Willingness to travel UK/international; valid UK right to work.

Responsibilities

• Analyse system and software requirements and contribute to architecture and design for test, measurement, simulation and control applications.
• Produce maintainable, documented code and develop test sequences, interfaces, drivers and data-processing functions.
• Integrate software with instrumentation, data acquisition hardware and switching systems; implement error handling and access controls.
• Reuse frameworks and migrate software for legacy test systems where applicable.
• Participate in the full lifecycle from feasibility to site acceptance and in-service support.
• Create plans, specifications and test evidence; maintain traceability across requirements and verification.
• Estimate software effort; identify risks and dependencies for project plans.
• Apply source control and release management; support safety, cybersecurity and compliance activities.
• Define and perform unit, integration and system testing; debug in lab and production environments.
• Support demonstrations, factory/site acceptance and commissioning.
