Job summary

Averna powered by Spherea designs, manufactures and supports complex test systems for aerospace, defence and other regulated industries. This Software Engineer role focuses on developing software for test, measurement, simulation and control systems, interacting with instrumentation and hardware across the lifecycle.

You will work with systems, hardware, electrical and project engineers from requirements through verification, commissioning and support, with occasional UK and international

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in software/engineering.
• Experience developing software for engineering or instrumentation.
• Proficient in at least one language/environment listed (C/C++, C#, LabVIEW, Python).
• Understanding of software architecture and structured design; experience debugging in engineering settings.
• Familiarity with source control, configuration management and software test evidence.

Responsibilities

• Analyse system and software requirements and contribute to architecture, detailed design and tech selection; develop software for automated and manual test, measurement, simulation and control apps.
• Produce maintainable, documented code and develop test sequences, operator interfaces, instrument drivers, data-processing functions, diagnostic tools and reports.
• Integrate software with instrumentation and data-acquisition hardware; implement error handling, logging, access controls and recovery.
• Reuse proven frameworks and modify or migrate software for existing test systems.
• Participate in full lifecycle from requirements to acceptance and support; ensure traceability between requirements, design and verification.
• Contribute to technical reviews and create plans, designs and test evidence; maintain traceability.
• Estimate software effort and provide input to project plans; assess risks and readiness for testing and acceptance.
• Apply version control, release and change-management; support safety, cybersecurity and compliant activities.
• Define and perform unit/integration/system testing; debug in lab and production environments.
• Support demonstrations, installation, commissioning and warranty support.
• Collaborate with customers and multidisciplinary teams to clarify requirements and share knowledge.
• Contribute to feasibility studies and proposals.
