Job summary

Government Recruitment Service (Paignton) is seeking a Small Craft Surveyor to survey and inspect small and non-convention vessels, ensuring compliance with UK and international safety standards. You will issue certifications and provide expert technical advice to vessel owners and industry colleagues.

The role involves leading surveys in routine cases, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to a high-quality survey service across MCA.

Responsibilities

• As directed by the Technical Manager or Principal Marine Surveyor, provide training or coaching to Marine Surveyor colleagues on MCA Survey and Inspection activities to ensure consistency with MCA standards.
• Carry out surveys in all but the most complex cases, leading to statutory certificates for small/non-convention vessels; act as lead surveyor and issue certification.
• Inspect small/non-convention vessels and port installations to ensure compliance with international conventions and UK requirements.
• Provide industry and public advice per MCA policies and serve as point of contact for technically related communications with vessel owners and companies.
• Maintain accurate training and competence records; complete development opportunities to sustain competence, impartiality and integrity.
