Job summary

Porterhouse Recruitment is seeking a Site Services Engineer for a Cambridgeshire-based manufacturer of timber and aluminium-clad timber windows and doors. You will work as a one-person team to deliver first-time fix solutions where possible, manage customer expectations, and help reduce ongoing costs.

The role involves direct customer contact and requires excellent product knowledge, a clean driving licence and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Identify issues and formulate resolutions (root cause and first time fixes).
  • Resolve quality or warranty issues with items supplied to end users or installers.
  • Explain the cause of problems and remedial actions to customers.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the After Sales Manager and share information with relevant teams.
  • Promote the Company with a smart, courteous approach.
  • Strive to improve customer experience and satisfaction at all times.
  • Adhere to HR, Finance and health and safety policies.
  • Carry out regular vehicle checks and keep company vehicles maintained.
  • Undertake duties commensurate with responsibility in discussion with Line Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Complete administration for expenses and warranty reports.
  • Continuously develop business performance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Site Services Engineer

Location: Cambridgeshire

Our client is a long-established manufacturer of bespoke timber and aluminium-clad timber windows and doors, with offices across the UK. The business combines traditional craftsmanship with modern performance standards, providing high-quality products for domestic and commercial applications. It has an established reputation for quality, durability and customer service.

Working as a one-man team, the main purpose of this role is to deliver where possible, a first time fix solution in order to manage the customers’ expectations, whilst reducing ongoing costs to the business.

This role involves direct contact with the customer.

Accountabilities/Typical Duties:
  • Identify issues and formulate resolutions (specifically root cause and first time fixes).
  • Resolve any quality or warranty issues with items supplied either to the end user or an installer.
  • Clearly explain the cause of the problem and the remedial actions to the customer.
  • Ensure regular progress updates and accurate information is provided to the After Sales Manager, liaising as necessary with other Company team members to ensure that relevant product information is shared.
  • Promote the Company through a smart, polite and courteous approach.
  • Continuously strive to add value to the overall customer experience, seeking to achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction at all times.
  • Adhere to and promote all company policies and procedures, including those relating to HR, Finance and health and safety.
  • Carry out regular vehicle checks to ensure Company vehicles remain legal, maintained and clean
  • Undertake such duties as may be required commensurate with the level of responsibility and nature of the job, in discussion with your Line Manager.
  • Ensure the maintenance of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Certain amount of administration work will be required in maintaining your own expenses and updating of warranty reports.
  • Continually strive to improve and develop business performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Excellent product knowledge required.
  • Clean driving licence
  • Previous fenestration experience is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of a similar role desirable but not essential.
Skills and Aptitude:
  • Painting skill preferable for carrying out minor repairs.
  • Ability to time manage own and other work.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills with the focus on delivering the highest standards of customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision to complete tasks.
  • A good team player capable of delivering excellent results under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • A positive ‘can do’ enthusiastic attitude towards addressing the technical challenges facing our client and our clients.
  • Ability to undertake repetitive tasks with patience and care.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Special Requirements:
  • Flexibility to work beyond “normal hours” to satisfy the customer.
  • Flexibility required to stay away overnight is an absolute must, this could be as much as a week at a time.
  • Area to be covered is Southern England.
  • Physically capable of carrying out a demanding hands-on role.
