Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a reliable Site Manager for a primary school in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, to lead the day-to-day site operations on a permanent basis.

You will ensure a safe, secure and well-presented environment for pupils and staff, taking ownership of building, grounds and facilities, with focus on security, maintenance and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Manager/Caretaker/Facilities or Maintenance within an institutional setting.
• Practical hands-on maintenance and minor repairs capability.
• Solid understanding of health and safety regulations in workplaces.
• Proactive problem-solving and ownership of site issues.
• Strong communication, professional and approachable manner.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the site.
• Previous school/education/public-sector experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for security, maintenance and upkeep of the school site.
• Open and secure school premises as required.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Manage planned and reactive maintenance across the site.
• Conduct regular health and safety checks and keep records.
• Liaise with external contractors and supervise on-site work.
• Support cleaning, waste disposal and site services management.
• Ensure pathways and outdoor areas are safe and accessible.
• Maintain stock levels of site and maintenance supplies.
• Respond to urgent maintenance or premises issues when needed.
• Ensure safeguarding and site security procedures are followed at all times.
• Support the school with premises requirements, events and deliveries.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented school environment. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the school site, ensuring that the building, grounds and facilities are maintained to a high standard for pupils, staff and visitors.

About the Role:

• Taking responsibility for the security, maintenance and general upkeep of the school site
• Opening and securing the school premises where required
• Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs
• Managing planned and reactive maintenance across the school
• Conducting regular health and safety checks and maintaining appropriate records
• Liaising with external contractors and supervising work completed on site
• Supporting the management of cleaning, waste disposal and site services
• Ensuring pathways, entrances and outdoor areas remain safe and accessible

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Previous experience in a Site Manager, Caretaker, Facilities or Maintenance position
• Practical maintenance skills and confidence completing minor repairs
• Good understanding of health and safety within a workplace environment
• Proactive approach with the ability to identify and resolve problems
• Strong communication skills and a professional, approachable manner
• Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for the school site
• Previous experience working within a school, education or public-sector environment would be advantageous
