Job summary

Balfour Beatty VINCI is seeking a Site Engineer in Birmingham to support HS2 works across the Midlands. You will be based on site, ensuring setting out with level, EDM, and GPS, and coordinating with Section Engineers to keep the programme on track.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree or HND, at least two years’ site experience, and a current CSCS card. You will audit quality plans, manage drawings, and ensure safety and permits to work are observed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or HND in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years' Site Engineer experience.
• Ability to read and understand drawings.
• Experience with Permit to Work systems.
• Experience in Earthworks, Roadworks, Structures or Drainage.
• Current driving licence and CSCS Card.

Responsibilities

• Allocate and supervise Site Engineers, ensuring accurate setting out and coordination with Section Engineers.
• Ensure I&T Plans, Quality Check Sheets, method statements and risk assessments are completed and followed.
• Oversee engineering and subcontractor requirements to meet the construction programme.
• Control project documentation and reflect completed works on drawings.
• Plan plant, resources and procedures with the Section Foreman and review for efficiency.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role Responsibilities:

• Allocate and supervise Site Engineers, ensuring accurate setting out, task completion, and coordination with Section Engineers/Foremen to manage clashes and maintain workflow.
• Manage quality and compliance by ensuring Inspection & Test Plans, Quality Check Sheets, method statements, and risk assessments are completed, approved, and followed.
• Oversee engineering and subcontractor requirements to ensure sections of work are delivered in line with the construction programme.
• Control and manage project documentation, including distribution of information and marking up design drawings to reflect completed works.
• Assess and plan plant, resource, and procedural requirements with the Section Foreman, regularly reviewing and improving procedures for efficiency.
• Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering
• Min of 2 years' experience as Site Engineer
• Read and understand drawings
• Have experience of working with Permit System and actively raises permits to work
• Have experience working in Earthworks, Roadworks, Structures or Drainage
• Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card
• Setting out techniques – ability to use level & EDM, plus GPS
