Job summary

SRG are recruiting a Site Chemist in Middlesbrough for a leading waste management and recycling partner. This hands-on role is 75% outdoor on-site with 25% laboratory work, operating 37.5 hours weekly from Monday to Friday.

You will receive and test incoming waste, ensure paperwork is compliant, and support safe, timely processing of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Applicants should have an HND in Chemistry or equivalent with chemistry content, and be willing to work outside in all

Responsibilities

• Receiving chemical waste onto site from industrial and commercial sites.
• Ensuring paperwork for incoming waste is compliant and correctly completed.
• Immediate testing of incoming waste to ensure conformity with paperwork using test strips.
• Further laboratory testing as needed for further analysis using techniques including flash point testing, pH testing, visual checks, odour, viscosity.
• Working alongside site operatives to ensure that waste is processed, stored and transferred in a safe, compliant and timely manner.
• Assisting with the control of material flows through the site and ensuring container stocks are maintained to avoid delays and backlogs.
• Bulking/re‑packing of waste to achieve maximum profitability.
• Supporting site chemists and operatives, ensuring all staff are working efficiently and collaboratively.
• Running morning briefings and reporting to delegate and distribute activity accordingly.
• Assist with site compliance and health and safety requirements and their strict adherence.

Job description

Site Chemist based in Middlesborough recent chemistry graduates will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Location: Middlesborough

Term: Permanent

SRG are working with a leading waste management and recycling company who have a long and very successful history of supporting the UK chemical industry. They are now looking for a site chemist to join the team. This is a hands‑on role within the waste industry, you will be checking and testing incoming loads, processing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, insuring segregation and storage of hazardous waste meets requirements, labelling waste and completing documents on all incoming and outgoing chemical materials. This role would suit candidates with prior industrial experience within the waste industry.

This position is hands‑on role, with around 75% spent working outdoors on site and around 20% in the laboratory.

Working Hours: 37.5 working hours per week, Monday to Friday, 24 days holiday + statutory bank holidays. Access to Rewards Gateway offering excellent discounts and cash back with many large retailers.
