Job summary

A family-run waste management company in Wednesbury is seeking an experienced Site Chemist. You will be responsible for testing and managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The ideal candidate has an HNC in Chemistry and prior experience in the waste industry. This role offers ongoing career development and a collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC in Chemistry required.
• Experience as a Site Chemist in the waste industry.
• Understanding of IOSH, ADR, WM3, IMDG and other waste regulations.

Responsibilities

• Receive chemical waste and ensure environmental compliance.
• Conduct testing on waste to confirm conformity.
• Collaborate with operatives to process waste safely.
• Conduct preliminary testing to confirm paperwork conformity.
• Perform lab testing (flash point, pH, odour, FTIR, viscosity).
• Collaborate with site operatives to process and transfer waste safely.
• Bulk/re-pack waste samples.
• Support other site chemists and operatives to work efficiently.

Site Chemist – Wednesbury, West Midlands

Monday – Thursday 7am-4pm, Friday 7am-2:30pm. 24 days holiday + 8 bank holidays.

Role Description

SRG are working with a well-established family‑run business specialising in waste management and environmental services. They invest heavily in their team offering robust training and development opportunities to support long‑term growth and success. We are looking for an experienced Site Chemist to support the testing, processing and segregation of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste.

Responsibilities

• Receive chemical waste at site and ensure acceptance meets environmental requirements.
• Ensure paperwork for incoming waste is compliant and correctly completed.
• Control waste streams through the plant/transfer station to avoid delays and backlogs.
• Conduct immediate testing of incoming waste to confirm conformity with paperwork.
• Perform laboratory testing as needed, including flash point, pH, visual checks, odour, FTIR and viscosity.
• Work alongside site operatives to process, store and transfer waste safely, compliantly and timely.
• Bulk/re‑pack waste samples.
• Support other site chemists and operatives, ensuring all staff work efficiently and collaboratively.

Requirements

• Minimum HNC in Chemistry.
• Recent experience working as a Site Chemist in the waste industry.
• Knowledge and understanding of IOSH, ADR, WM3, IMDG and other waste regulations.
• Full right to work in the UK; no sponsorship available for this role.
