Job summary

SRG is working with a leading waste management and recycling company to appoint a Site Chemist in Middlesbrough. This hands-on role involves testing incoming waste, ensuring compliance paperwork, and supervising on-site operations across outdoor and laboratory environments.

Ideal for recent chemistry graduates with an HND in Chemistry or equivalent, who can work in all weather conditions. UK right-to-work is required; sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum HND in Chemistry, or similar qualification with significant chemistry content.
• Willing to work outside in all weathers.

Responsibilities

• Receiving chemical waste onto site from industrial and commercial sites.
• Ensuring paperwork for incoming waste is compliant and correctly completed.
• Immediate testing of incoming waste to ensure conformity with paperwork using test strips.
• Further laboratory testing as needed for further analysis using techniques including flash point testing, pH testing, visual checks, odour, viscosity.
• Working alongside site operatives to ensure that waste is processed, stored and transferred in a safe, compliant and timely manner.
• Assisting with the control of material flows through the site and ensuring container stocks are maintained to avoid delays and backlogs.
• Bulking/re-packing of waste to achieve maximum profitability.
• Supporting site chemists and operatives, ensuring all staff are working efficiently and collaboratively.
• Running morning briefings and reporting to delegate and distribute activity accordingly.
• Assist with site compliance and health and safety requirements and their strict adherence.

SRG are working with a leading waste management and recycling company who have a long and very successful history of supporting the UK chemical industry. They are now looking for a site chemist to join the team. This is a hands‑on role within the waste industry, you will be checking and testing incoming loads, processing hazardous and non‑hazardous waste, insuring segregation and storage of hazardous waste meets requirements, labelling waste and completing documents on all incoming and outgoing chemical materials. This role would suit candidates with prior industrial experience within the waste industry. This position is hands‑on role, with around 75% spent working outdoors on site and around 20% in the laboratory.

Working Hours: 37.5 working hours per week, Monday to Friday, 24 days holiday + statutory bank holidays. Access to Rewards Gateway offering excellent discounts and cash back with many large retailers.
