Job summary

M Group Highways is looking for an experienced site supervisor to lead our Civils projects teams on highways across the UK. You will manage the on-site workforce and subcontractors to deliver works on time, with a focus on safety, quality and record-keeping.

You will monitor progress against the contract programme, manage change under NEC, and maintain records through photos, diaries and as-built drawings. Strong highways experience and NEC3 familiarity are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in civil engineering and workforce supervision on highways projects.
  • Strong commercial awareness to support cost control.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site team including supervision and sub-contractors to completion of works.
  • Produce and maintain the contract programme and manage change per NEC.
  • Monitor site activities against target programmes and report exceptions.
  • Maintain records via site photos, daily diaries and as-built drawings.
  • Conduct daily site briefings and supervise subcontractor briefings.
  • Ensure works meet the Works Specification and safety standards (It Starts With Me).
  • Attend client meetings and provide delivery updates.
  • Issue formal communications including Early Warnings and instructions.
  • Assist in tendering and evaluation of sub-contract packages.
  • Own safety and environmental compliance; close out actions on time.

You’ll be joining our Civils projects team. We deliver specialist civil engineering for the private and public sectors across the UK, building strong relationships based on a collaborative approach.

What will you be doing?

You'll lead associated site team including M Group supervision and subcontractors to successful completion of works.

You'll produce and maintain the contract programme and be responsible for managing change on site in line with the NEC contract conditions.

We'll ask you to monitor site activities against target programmes reporting exceptions in outputs, delays etc.

You'll complete all activities with diligence and energy to maximise the time spent on site planning and supervising works.

Ensuring adequate records are maintained through site photographs, daily diaries and as built drawings.

You'll carry out daily site briefings and supervise sub-contractor task briefings.

Monitor all works activities to ensure that they meet the Works Specification and are being delivered in a safe manner following the principles of our behavioural based safety initiative, It Starts With Me.

Attend client meetings to provide them with a delivery update and manage any adverse issues.

Formal communications to clients and subcontractors including but not limited to Early Warnings, and instructions.

Assist in the tendering of works including evaluation and selection of sub-contract packages;

You'll take ownership for safety and environmental compliance for your project and ensure all identified actions are closed out within their timescale.

What you’ll bring
  • A good level of experience in civil engineering and workforce supervision including earthworks; drainage and structures in a highways environment;
  • A good level of commercial acumen to facilitate cost control;
  • Effective team management, leadership and influencing skills to get the best from everyone;
  • Excellent customer skills and the ability to work collaboratively in all situations;
  • The ability to drive excellent relationships with contacts at all levels including the client, colleagues and members of key stakeholders;
  • The ability to remain flexible in your approach to the role whilst embracing change and helping to manage the change process;
  • Experience of working on NEC3 contracts including the mechanisms for notifications.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written – to ensure clarity in all situations and to effectively influence client decision making
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise, whilst multi-tasking for many stakeholders, and still remaining focused on what’s most important
