Job summary

M Group Civils Projects in the South West of England is seeking a Project Manager to lead highways and civil engineering schemes. You will manage delivery, safety, budget, and programme, while coordinating with clients, consultants and subcontractors.

The role emphasizes proactive risk management, stakeholder communication, and collaboration with internal teams. You will line-manage project staff and contribute to bids and future project opportunities within a supportive, safety‑driven

Qualifications

  • Previous experience managing highways or civil engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance of highways infrastructure, including bridges, earthworks, and complex structures.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g. HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management), ideally Chartered.
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills with a collaborative approach to team management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Committed to continuous professional development and driving improvements within the business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the successful delivery of highways and civil engineering projects, ensuring safety, on time, and within budget.
  • Oversee day-to-day site operations, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimise programme risk and disruption.
  • Act as main point of contact with clients, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies in all activities.
  • Support the business in securing future projects by contributing to bids, presentations, and developing client partnerships.
  • Line manage project teams and monitor performance against targets.

Where will you be working?

M Group Civils Projects are seeking a South West based Project Manager.

You’ll be joining our Civils Projects team - We deliver specialist civil engineering for the private and public sectors across the UK, building strong relationships based on a collaborative approach. Want to come and be a part of it?

What will you be doing?
  • You’ll manage the successful delivery of highways and civil engineering projects, ensuring all works are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Oversee day-to-day site operations, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimise programme risk and disruption.
  • You’ll act as the main point of contact with clients, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and strong stakeholder relationships throughout the project life cycle.
  • Ensuring compliance with highest standards, health and safety regulations, and company policies in all project activities.
  • You’ll support the business in securing future projects by contributing to bids, presentations, and developing lasting client partnerships.

Line management of project teams

Performance management and improvement against key business targets in line with the M Group business plan – operational, financial, people, health/safety, quality, environmental and client satisfaction

Input into monthly operational and financial reporting and scrutiny.

What you’ll bring
  • Previous experience managing highways or civil engineering projects, with a strong understanding of National Highways’ requirements and methodologies.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the construction and maintenance of highways infrastructure, including bridges, earthworks, and complex structures.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management), ideally holding or working towards Chartered status.
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to team management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Committed to continuous professional development, keen to innovate, and motivated to drive improvements within the business and across the broader industry.
