Job summary

Gold Group is seeking a Shift Mechanical Engineer to join a large facilities management team in the Birmingham/Smethwick area. The role covers ventilation, pumps, boilers, medical gases, heating and water systems with a proactive maintenance and emergency response focus.

The ideal candidate will hold City & Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Mechanical disciplines and have a relevant apprenticeship or maintenance background, with healthcare experience desirable.

• City & Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 in mechanical discipline.
• Recognised engineering apprenticeship completed.
• Experience in a maintenance environment.
• Competent Person/Authorised Person experience (desirable)
• Healthcare maintenance experience (desirable)

Responsibilities

• Ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, and domestic hot and cold-water systems.
• Respond to reactive jobs with diagnostics and repairs per standards and procedures.
• Respond to BMS alerts at night, assess issues, assign tasks, document, and hand over records to Helpdesk.
• Obtain Competent Person status for systems like ventilation, water systems, and medical gas installations.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance across site per the programme.

Brief

Shift Mechanical Engineer needed for a large, well-known Facilities Management organisation based in Birmingham who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Shift Mechanical Engineer that takes pride in their work with an in-depth knowledge of ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems. The successful candidate would desirably have a relevant qualification - i.e. City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 in a Mechanical discipline etc. - and have a keen interest in Mechanical Engineering. If you have commercial experience in a healthcare setting that would be a plus!

What the role entails

• Work on the following but not limited to: ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems
• Undertake a proactive role in responding to reactive jobs to complete diagnostic, fault finding and repair to complex mechanical systems in accordance with relevant standards and operational procedures and in compliance with legislation and guidance
• Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during nightshift, acting as the initial point of contact. Assess the nature of the issue, allocate the task to the appropriate team member, and complete the necessary documentation. Ensure all records are handed over to the Helpdesk team at the start of their shift to support effective service continuity
• Obtain Competent Person status following training and instruction for systems such as specialist ventilation system, complex water systems and medical gas installations
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to services across site on various aspects of the building services in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training

What experience you need to be the successful Shift Mechanical Engineer

• City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3
• Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline to City & Guilds level
• Previously worked within a maintenance environment
• Previous Competent Person/Authorised Person experience including ventilation and/or pressure systems. (Desirable)
• Previously worked within a healthcare maintenance environment (Desirable)

This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
