Job summary

Gold Group in Birmingham is seeking a Shift Mechanical Engineer to maintain essential building services, including ventilation, pumps and boilers, on a 4 on/4 off days and nights shift. The role offers a base of £35,000 plus a £3,000 shift allowance.

The successful candidate will have City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 in mechanical discipline or an apprenticeship, with healthcare maintenance experience preferred. A DBS check is required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to BMS alerts during night shifts and document actions.
• Obtain Competent Person status after training for specialised systems.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance across site.

Brief

Shift Mechanical Engineer needed for a large, well-known Facilities Management organisation based in Birmingham who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Shift Mechanical Engineer that takes pride in their work with an in-depth knowledge of ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems

The successful candidate would desirably have a relevant qualification - i.e. City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 in a Mechanical discipline etc. - and have a keen interest in Mechanical Engineering. If you have commercial experience in a healthcare setting that would be a plus!

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Shift Mechanical Engineer will include:

• Work on the following but not limited to; ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems
• Undertake a proactive role in responding to reactive jobs to complete diagnostic, fault finding and repair to complex mechanical systems in accordance with relevant standards and operational procedures and in compliance with legislation and guidance
• Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during nightshift, acting as the initial point of contact. Assess the nature of the issue, allocate the task to the appropriate team member, and complete the necessary documentation. Ensure all records are handed over to the Helpdesk team at the start of their shift to support effective service continuity
• Obtain Competent Person status following training and instruction for systems such as specialist ventilation system, complex water systems and medical gas installations
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to services across site on various aspects of the building services in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training

What experience you need to be the successful Shift Mechanical Engineer:

• City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3
• Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline to City & Guilds level
• Previously worked within a maintenance environment
• Previous Competent Person/Authorised Person experience including ventilation and/or pressure systems. (Desirable)
• Previously worked within a healthcare maintenance environment (Desirable)

This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
