Job summary

Tata Steel Llanwern in Newport is seeking a time-served Mechanical Craft Team Member to join the Utilities department on a 37.5-hour shift pattern. You will support the Shift Control Engineer and maintain steam, gas, water, compressed air and HV electrical systems.

The role requires an apprenticeship and NVQ3, 2+ years in heavy industry, a valid UK driving licence, and the ability to work flexibly, with full right to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 (Mechanical Engineering) are essential qualifications.
• 2+ years of experience in a heavy industrial environment.
• Experience in a mechanical maintenance role is preferred.
• UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.
• Basic understanding of Electrical Principles and fluid power systems.

Responsibilities

• Delivering mechanical maintenance across the energy plant.
• Responding to engineering, safety and quality issues to minimise downtime.
• Supporting the shift Control Engineer with reactive and preventative maintenance activity.
• Ensuring all work complies with H&S requirements, PTW procedures and high engineering standards.
• Developing understanding of fluid power and electrical systems.
• Becoming authorised to issue permits and supervising Tata or contract personnel.
