Job summary

Tata Steel Llanwern in Newport is seeking a Mechanical Craft Team Member to support the Utilities department on a shift basis. The role covers maintenance across steam, gas, water, compressed air and HV electrical infrastructure, reporting to the Shift Control Engineer.

The position requires a time-served apprenticeship with NVQ3, 2+ years in heavy industry and a driving licence. Flexibility for shifts and a strong safety mindset are essential, with benefits including holidays and development

Qualifications

• Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 in Mechanical Engineering
• 2+ years within a Heavy Industrial environment
• 2+ years in a Mechanical maintenance role
• UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
• Basic understanding of Electrical Principles
• Basic understanding of fluid power systems
• Ability to perform a physically demanding role with grease, scale and dust
• Flexibility to adhere to shift pattern
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation

Responsibilities

• Delivering mechanical maintenance across the energy plant
• Responding to engineering, safety and quality issues to minimise downtime
• Supporting the shift Control Engineer with reactive and preventative maintenance activity
• Ensuring all work complies with H&S requirements, PTW procedures and high engineering standards
• Developing a strong understanding of fluid power and electrical systems
• After training supporting with HV and fluid power activity
• Becoming authorised to issue permits
• Supervising Tata or contract personnel as needed
• Adhering to the strongest levels of UK Health and Safety legislation
• Identifying areas for improvement and participating in continuous improvement initiatives
