Job summary

Tata Steel Llanwern in Newport is hiring a Mechanical Craft Team Member on a 37.5-hour shift pattern. You will maintain electrical and mechanical plant across steam, gas, water, and HV infrastructure, supporting the Shift Control Engineer and ensuring safety and quality standards.

Applicants must be time-served with NVQ3 in Mechanical Engineering, 2+ years in heavy industry, and hold a UK driving licence. The role includes a drug test and Right-to-work checks and offers a generous benefits

Qualifications

• Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 (Mechanical Engineering).
• 2+ years' experience in a Heavy Industrial environment.
• Experience in a Mechanical maintenance role (2+ years).
• UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.
• Basic understanding of Electrical Principles.
• Basic understanding of fluid power systems.
• Ability to conduct a physically demanding role with grease, scale and dust.
• Fully flexible to shift patterns.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation.

Responsibilities

• Delivering mechanical maintenance across the energy plant.
• Responding to engineering, safety and quality issues to minimise downtime.
• Supporting the shift Control Engineer with reactive and preventative maintenance activity.
• Ensuring all work complies with H&S requirements, PTW procedures and high engineering standards.
• Developing a strong understanding of fluid power and electrical systems.
• After training, supporting HV and fluid power activity.
• Becoming authorised to issue permits.
• Supervising Tata or contract personnel as needed.
• Adhering to the strongest levels of UK Health and Safety legislation at all times.
• Identifying areas for improvement and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

Are you based in or around Newport?

Tata Steel Llanwern might be looking for you! The opportunity for a Mechanical Craftsperson to work on a shift basis within their Utilities department has arisen. The successful applicant will be a strong support to the Shift Control Engineer and work across steam, gas, water, compressed air and HV electrical infrastructure.

Llanwern works produce strip steel for the UK and EU via a pickle line and cold mill. They are also a leading producer in galvanised steel with sustainability at the forefront of all that they do.

On this occasion, only applicants with Full Right to work in the UK already in place can be considered

Role: Mechanical Craft Team Member

Location: Tata Steel, Llanwern Works, Newport NP19 4QZ

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (shifts are a combination of days and nights so the need for flexibility is imperative)

Salary: £41342 per annum (This includes a 30% shift allowance)

Start: ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment. (This does include a drug and alcohol test)

Essential requirements:

• Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 (Mechanical Engineering)
• Previous experience (2+ years) within a Heavy Industrial environment
• Previous experience in a Mechanical maintenance role (2+years)
• UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
• Basic understanding of Electrical Principles
• Basic understanding of fluid power systems
• The ability to conduct a physically demanding role, with no concerns around working with grease, scale and dust on a daily basis
• Ability to be fully flexible and adhere to the shift pattern
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
