Job summary

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Senior UTC Practitioner to join the Urgent Treatment Centres at Blaydon and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will lead urgent care, review and treat patients, and mentor junior colleagues to develop skills.

The role includes acting as Shift Lead on both sites, coordinating front desk streaming to direct patients to appropriate care and maintaining high standards of clinical care within the UTC setting.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse or allied health professional with UK registration.
• Degree in nursing or equivalent.
• Clinical skills course and nurse competencies.
• Advanced / Immediate life support.
• Paediatric clinical skills and competencies.
• Non medical prescribing.
• Teaching qualification or mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality, evidence based and patient focused care in UTC and related urgent care areas.
• Use national and local guidelines to support safe decision making.
• Have a sound grounding in history taking and clinical skills.
• Order relevant investigations and collaborate with senior staff.
• Interpret clinical investigations (e.g., x-rays) and act on findings.
• Contribute to clinical governance and ongoing professional development.
• Prescribe medications as appropriate to treatment plans.
• Work flexibly across ED and UTCs on both sites.
