Morson Group is seeking a Setting out Engineer for a highways/civils project in Barnham, West Suffolk. The role focuses on accurate setting out, surveying and providing engineering support to site teams on a major project starting November 2026.

Contract position with day shifts and rates of £300–£450 per shift. The successful candidate will read drawings precisely, perform QA checks and maintain clear records while collaborating with site management to uphold safety, quality and programme

Qualifications

• Experience as a Site Engineer on highways/civils projects.
• Strong setting-out and surveying capabilities with drawings interpretation.
• CSCS card and relevant site qualifications are expected.

Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate surveying and setting out to enable construction per drawings and specs.
• Provide clear, accurate engineering information to site teams.
• Monitor works to ensure correct positions, levels, and specs.
• Collaborate with site managers and wider team to implement engineering info.
• Perform QA checks in line with QA procedures.
• Support safe, efficient delivery aligned with the programme.
• Maintain engineering records and as-built information.
• Identify and communicate engineering issues to site management.
• Work with subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.
• Ensure activities comply with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Contribute to a positive site culture prioritising safety and quality.

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Setting out Engineer, working with Octavius Infrastructure, a leading Tier 1 contractor.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Site Engineer to join a major highways project.

We are particularly interested in engineers with a strong background in highways, earthworks and general civil engineering, who are confident with setting out and providing accurate engineering support to site teams.

Key Responsibilities

• * Carry out accurate surveying and setting out to enable the construction of the works in accordance with drawings and specifications.
• * Provide clear, accurate and timely engineering and setting out information to site teams.
• * Monitor and check that works are constructed to the correct positions, levels and specifications.
• * Liaise closely with Site Managers, Supervisors and the wider development team to ensure engineering information is understood and implemented correctly.
• * Carry out quality assurance checks in line with project and company QA procedures.
• * Support the delivery of works safely and efficiently, ensuring activities are planned and completed in line with the programme.
• * Maintain accurate engineering records, documentation and as-built information where required.
• * Identify and communicate any engineering issues or discrepancies to the relevant site management team.
• * Work collaboratively with subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
• * Ensure all engineering activities are carried out in accordance with relevant health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• * Contribute to a positive and collaborative site culture, with safety and quality at the heart of delivery.

Key Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• * Previous experience working as a Site Engineer on highways/civils projects.
• * Strong experience delivering earthworks and highways works.
• * Good knowledge of setting out and surveying.
• * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• * Experience carrying out QA checks and maintaining accurate site records.
• * Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors and management.
• * A proactive approach to identifying and resolving engineering issues.
• * Relevant engineering qualifications or demonstrable site-based engineering experience.
• * Appropriate CSCS card and relevant site qualifications.
