Job summary

Morson Group is seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer for a major highways and drainage project near Bath. The role focuses on setting out carriageway drainage and related works, ensuring accuracy and safety on site.

The position requires experience with Total Station or Robotic Total Station, and CSCS card. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is advantageous. Six-month contract starting November 2026 with day shifts.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on civil engineering or highways projects.
• Experience with carriageway drainage, filter drains and carrier drains.
• Valid White CSCS Card – essential.
• Competent using a Total Station or Robotic Total Station.
• AutoCAD or Civil 3D experience advantageous.
• Able to interpret engineering drawings and work within a site team.

• Carrying out accurate setting out and surveying for carriageway drainage, filter drains and carrier drains.
• Establishing levels, coordinates and positions using surveying equipment.
• Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to ensure works are completed accurately.
• Supporting drainage installation and associated highway works.
• Carrying out quality checks and maintaining accurate site records.
• Liaising with site management, engineers and subcontractors to coordinate works.
• Ensuring all works are delivered safely and in line with project specifications and programme requirements.

Setting Out Engineer - Highways & Drainage

Location: Near M4 Junctions 17-18, Bath
Contract: 6 Months
Start Date: November 2026
Rate: £300-£450 per shift DOE
Shifts: Days

The Opportunity

Morson is currently recruiting for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major civil engineering project near Bath, working on carriageway drainage, filter drains and carrier drains for a leading Tier 1 contractor.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Setting Out Engineer with a strong highways and drainage background to secure a six-month contract on an established project.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring drainage and associated highway works are accurately set out and delivered safely, efficiently and in line with engineering specifications.
