Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection is seeking a Setting Out Engineer for civil engineering, surveying and groundworks. The role covers on-site duties across Home Counties and Northamptonshire, requiring close collaboration with the site team.

You will set out and survey works, review RAMS/ITPs/RFIs, ensure conformity with drawings and specifications, and maintain comprehensive engineering records while supporting the wider project team.

Qualifications

• Proven track record as Setting Out Engineer in civils market.
• Residential housing experience preferred.
• Ability to read technical drawings and use AutoCAD.
• Full, clean driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Setting out and surveying works on site.
• Work closely with Site Manager and construction team.
• Produce RAMS, ITPs, RFIs and project documentation.
• Ensure works follow drawings, specs and procedures.
• Check levels, dimensions and quality of works.
• Maintain accurate site records and engineering docs.
• Provide technical support to site teams and resolve issues.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and management.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Setting Out Engineer - Civil Engineering, Surveying, Groundworks

• Setting out and surveying works on site
• Working closely with the Site Manager and wider construction team
• Producing and reviewing RAMS, ITPs, RFIs and other project documentation
• Ensuring works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications and approved procedures
• Checking levels, dimensions and quality of completed works
• Maintaining accurate site records and engineering documentation
• Assisting with technical queries and resolving site issues
• Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and project management teams
• Monitoring construction activities and ensuring they are completed to the required standards
• Providing technical support and guidance to site teams
• Identifying potential issues and assisting with practical solutions
• Ensuring health, safety and quality requirements are maintained throughout the works

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working on infrastructure, commercial and residential groundwork across main contractors, developers and major house builders
• Completing site surveys and essential site preparation
• Working on multiple projects across the Home Counties and Northamptonshire

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Setting Out Engineer - Civil Engineering, Surveying, Groundworks

• Have a proven track record as a Setting Out Engineer within the civils market
• Preferably have residential / housing experience
• Be able to use AUTOCAD and read technical drawings from architects
• Be either on the books or self employed, would consider both (ideally on the books)
• You will hold a BTEC or Level 3 qualification in civil engineering or surveying, but we welcome applicants who have a HNC, HND or Degree in civil engineering or surveying
• You will need a full clean driving license
