Job Description:
The service manager is responsible for coordinating staff and resources to ensure high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. They must ensure the welfare of service users, compliance with organizational standards, statutory, and contractual requirements, and operate within a legislative framework, promoting values and care ethos.
The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers across 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children of Lynton Community Care, reporting directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for referrals, including assessments, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
- Maintain good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (revised 2012), Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Manage the home environment, ensuring adherence to health, safety, infection control, and environmental legislation. Conduct risk assessments and fire checks to ensure safety.
- Collaborate with CIW, understand CIW Fundamental Standards, and carry out statutory notifications as required.
- Ensure all legal and statutory documentation for the home is current and properly maintained.
- Document maintenance issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
- Monitor and investigate complaints, generate reports, and implement corrective actions and improvements.
- Assist in recruiting, inducting, and training staff, supporting their development.
- Promote a culture of openness, honesty, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Hold regular staff meetings, provide supervision, and support team development.
- Build positive relationships with staff and ensure effective communication mechanisms.
- Participate in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and decision-making, in consultation with HR.
- Manage staff scheduling, shift coverage, absences, holidays, and sickness.
- Oversee medication management, including ordering, recording, disposal, and auditing.
- Manage budgets, petty cash, food shopping, and activity budgets.
- Safeguard service users and handle safeguarding issues appropriately.
- Work with paid personal representatives to ensure care plans comply with Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
- Provide out-of-hours support via on-call duties, offering advice and attending incidents as necessary.
- Attend supervision sessions and engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Contribute to strategic planning, decision-making, and business growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, commensurate with skills and competence.
- Manage budgets and financials effectively.
- Write, review, and audit behavioral reports and other documentation.
The service manager must possess skills and qualifications to support both adults and children living with learning disabilities.
