Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Learning Difficulties Specialist Teacher to join a small specialist school attached to a residential home in Northamptonshire. You will teach five secondary-aged students with SLD, supported by a Teaching Assistant.

The role uses sensory-based learning and AAC approaches (PECS, Makaton) to develop communication and independence. You’ll plan and assess progress, collaborate with families and professionals, and work in a calm,

Qualifications

• Has QTS or relevant teaching experience.
• Experience with SEN, SLD or complex learning needs.
• Calm, patient and nurturing approach.
• Understands the importance of communication, sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing.
• Experience using PECS, Makaton or other AAC strategies.
• Able to work with a small, close-knit team.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver personalised lessons for secondary-aged pupils with SLD.
• Adapt the curriculum to meet diverse learning and communication needs.
• Use sensory-based and practical approaches to engage pupils.
• Support communication through PECS, Makaton and AAC.
• Develop pupils' independence and life skills.
• Monitor and record pupil progress.
• Collaborate with Teaching Assistants, HLTA and staff.
• Build positive relationships and a calm learning environment.
• Liaise with families and other professionals as needed.
