Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment are seeking an experienced Learning Difficulties Specialist Teacher to join a small specialist school attached to a residential home in Northamptonshire. You will teach a class of five secondary pupils with severe learning difficulties, delivering personalised, sensory-based lessons and supporting communication and regulation.

The role requires QTS or equivalent experience, and a passion for enabling pupils with additional needs to access the curriculum and develop

Qualifications

• Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or have relevant teaching experience.
• Experience working with pupils with SEN, SLD or complex learning needs.
• Ability to adapt teaching to individual pupil needs and maintain calm, supportive classroom environments.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver personalised lessons for secondary pupils with SLD.
• Adapt the curriculum to meet diverse learning and communication needs.
• Use sensory-based and practical approaches to engage pupils in learning.
• Support communication using PECS, Makaton or other AAC strategies.
• Develop pupils' independence, confidence and life skills.
• Monitor, assess and record pupil progress.
• Collaborate with Teaching Assistants, HLTA and staff.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and families to support needs.
