Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a senior Telecoms design lead to drive the delivery of rail telecoms systems across UK and international projects. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, shape design maturity from feasibility to handback, and mentor engineers through critical project phases.

Based in the UK with flexible hybrid working, you will engage with clients, bid teams and stakeholders, ensuring design quality, safety compliance and timely delivery on prestigious rail schemes.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc Master of Science / Engineering or equivalent in an electronic or communications discipline and ideally chartered Membership of a professional body.
• Proven track record of providing project and technical leadership.
• Extensive experience in leading, producing and checking telecommunications and control systems designs through the entire design and construction cycle for projects in the UK and potentially overseas.
• Detailed knowledge of the design and integration of two or more of the below systems/subsystems: Structured Cabling infrastructure – copper and fibre optic; IP networking, routing, switching, virtualisation, storage; Internet Protocol CCTV Systems; EN54 Public Address and Voice Alarm Systems; ISMS/IBMS; SCADA; CIS; Wireless Network Architecture; VOIP; Mobile telephony and Radio systems; Trackside Telecommunication equipment; Fixed Telecommunications Network.
• Experience as CRE or equivalent for Network Rail / HS2 / TfL and Good working knowledge of Network Rail, TfL & LUL standards.
• Good knowledge of H&S legislation, CDM requirements, Safe by Design principles and Railway safety.

Responsibilities

• Manage design delivery across a portfolio of projects.
• Support bids and tenders by developing fee estimates and preparing discipline specific proposal content.
• Lead the production of Telecoms system designs for rail infrastructure from feasibility to detailed design and handback.
• Coordinate telecoms design with multi-discipline teams and communicate discipline requirements affecting the wider design.
• Present designs to clients, stakeholders and project teams, illustrating concepts, constraints and solutions.
• Line manage team members and support staff training and development.
