Job summary

North East Lincolnshire Council is seeking a Senior Technician in Highway Inspector to join our Highways and Transport team. You will inspect the highway network and provide practical technical support across maintenance activities, helping to keep streets safe and well-maintained.

Reporting to the Highways Asset Management team, you will contribute to inspections, data records and proposals for programmed maintenance, while working with planning, environment and utility colleagues to resolve

What will your day look like?

As a Senior Technician within the Highway Asset Management, Maintenance and Structures Team, you will join a team in undertaking inspections of the highway network and provide practical technical support across a range of highway maintenance activities.

You will support North East Lincolnshire Council in meeting its statutory duty, as the highway authority, to maintain highways maintainable at public expense under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980.

The role involves undertaking cyclical and reactive highway safety inspections, assessing defects through dynamic risk assessment, and raising appropriate repair actions in line with the Council’s Highway Inspection and Maintenance Policy and best-practice guidance.

You will report highway condition findings, contribute to proposals for programmed maintenance and network improvements, investigate customer service reports, and maintain accurate inspection records to support effective service delivery and the defence of highway liability claims.

You will also work closely with other Council service areas to report third-party faults, including matters relating to planning and environmental enforcement and utility works.

You’ll also be a key point of contact for routine technical queries, helping colleagues, Members, partners and stakeholders understand information clearly and confidently. Alongside this, you’ll support site inspections, surveys, audits and data collection, making sure records are accurate, useful and up to date.

This is a hands‑on technical role where your attention to detail, experience and ability to work with others will make a real difference.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with experience in a relevant technical or professional field who is comfortable working with data, systems, records and technical information.

You’ll need to be organised, accurate and able to manage competing priorities. As the role involves a mix of office‑based work and site inspections, you’ll also need to be comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions.

Experience of highway maintenance would be helpful, along with experience of inspections, surveys and customer service.

You need to be dependable, approachable and confident enough to share your technical knowledge in a way that helps others.

As part of this role, you will need to hold a driving licence.
