Job description
Help Build What’s Next
Shaping places. Leading change. Keeping NEL Moving.

Highways and Transport is back at North East Lincolnshire Council, creating a rare opportunity to be part of something from the beginning.

As we establish and grow the Road Safety team, we’re bringing together talented people who want to do more than simply deliver services. We’re looking for people who want to influence how they are designed, developed and improved for the future.

From maintaining and improving our highways network, to shaping how people travel across North East Lincolnshire, the work we do touches the lives of residents, businesses and visitors every day. Now is an exciting time to join us as we invest in our people, strengthen our expertise and create a service fit for the future.

As an Engineer in the Traffic and Road Safety team you will have the opportunity to use your existing skills, knowledge and professional expertise to make your mark, grow your career and help shape the future of Highways and Transport in North East Lincolnshire.

What will your day look like?

As an Engineer, you’ll take a leading role in planning, designing, coordinating and delivering road safety engineering schemes and programmes.

You’ll use your professional judgement to assess risks, interpret standards, develop solutions and make sure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with statutory requirements and best practice.

Your day could involve developing designs, reviewing technical information, managing contractors, overseeing site activity, monitoring project performance or preparing reports and recommendations. You’ll also provide professional advice to colleagues, stakeholders, elected Members and the public, helping resolve issues and support good decision-making.

This is a role where you’ll be trusted to lead defined projects through the full lifecycle, balancing safety, quality, cost, risk and delivery.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced Road Safety Engineering professional who can manage projects, work confidently with contractors and stakeholders, and bring sound judgement to technical decisions.

You’ll need strong organisational skills, good communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear, accessible information. You’ll be comfortable working with drawings, specifications, reports, data and risk assessments.

You’ll also understand the importance of collaboration. This role will suit someone who can take ownership, build relationships and deliver practical solutions that work for everyone who travels around North East Lincolnshire.

Why join us?

This is a chance to play a key role in a newly formed Highways and Transport service with ambition, purpose and room to grow.

You’ll be joining at a point where your expertise can genuinely help shape how projects are planned, delivered and improved. You’ll have the opportunity to influence standards, strengthen delivery and support a service that has a direct impact on communities across North East Lincolnshire.

If you want to bring your Road Safety knowledge and expertise somewhere they will be valued, visible and put to good use, this could be your next move.
