Job summary

North East Lincolnshire Council is seeking a Section 38/278 Engineer to help shape the highways and transport assets in North East Lincolnshire. You will lead engineering schemes from planning through delivery, applying professional judgement to design, assess risks and ensure compliance.

You’ll collaborate with contractors and partners, review technical information, monitor progress and prepare reports, influencing standards and contributing to safer, better-connected communities.

Qualifications

• Experience in planning, designing, coordinating and delivering engineering schemes and programmes.
• Ability to assess risks, interpret standards, develop solutions and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with statutory requirements and best practice.
• Ability to manage projects, work confidently with contractors and stakeholders, and bring sound judgement to technical decisions.
• Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear information.

Responsibilities

• Lead defined projects through the full lifecycle, balancing safety, quality, cost, risk and delivery.
• Develop designs, review technical information, manage contractors, oversee site activity and monitor project performance.
• Prepare reports and recommendations and provide professional advice to colleagues, stakeholders, elected Members and the public.

What will your day look like?

As an Engineer, you’ll take a leading role in planning, designing, coordinating and delivering engineering schemes and programmes.

You’ll use your professional judgement to assess risks, interpret standards, develop solutions and make sure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with statutory requirements and best practice.

Within the HDC Team there will be a strong focus on health and safety ensuring all colleagues and contractors on site are adhering to key safety principles and regulations at all times.This means there may be instances of having to challenge.

Your day could involve developing designs, reviewing technical information, managing contractors, overseeing site activity, monitoring project performance or preparing reports and recommendations. You’ll also provide professional advice to colleagues, stakeholders, elected Members and the public, helping resolve issues and support good decision-making.

This is a role where you’ll be trusted to lead defined projects through the full lifecycle, balancing safety, quality, cost, risk and delivery.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional who can manage projects, work confidently with contractors and stakeholders, and bring sound judgement to technical decisions. You must be open to having challenging conversations with stakeholders and third parties ensuring that outcomes are delivered safely and to specifications.

You’ll need strong organisational skills, good communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear, accessible information. You’ll be comfortable working with drawings, specifications, reports, data and risk assessments.

You’ll also understand the importance of collaboration. This role will suit someone who can take ownership, build relationships and deliver practical engineering solutions that work for the place, the service and the people who use it.
