Job summary

Sword is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join the Managed Services team. You will support and improve customer systems across on-premise and datacentre environments, taking ownership and focusing on proactive, preventive engineering.

You will work across Windows/Linux servers, virtualization, storage and platform services, with an emphasis on observability, automation and sound operational practice to keep services stable, secure and measurable.

Qualifications

• Five years+ experience supporting systems infrastructure in enterprise, managed services or outsourced IT.
• ITIL Foundation or equivalent service-management qualification where appropriate.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and core datacentre services.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support, administration and maintenance for customer systems across on-premise and datacentre environments.
• Monitor service health using alerts, logs and metrics to anticipate degradation.
• Investigate and resolve incidents across Windows/Linux servers, networks and related services.
• Manage incidents, service requests, changes and tasks per service commitments and priorities.
• Assist root-cause analysis and problem management with emphasis on permanent fixes.
• Perform patching, configuration changes, vulnerability remediation and routine maintenance.
• Support upgrades, migrations, hardware refreshes and new environment onboarding.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work to improve consistency and reduce risk.
• Maintain technical documentation, SOPs and knowledge articles.
