Job summary

Sword Group is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our Managed Services team in the United Kingdom. You will own and improve customer systems across on‑premises and datacentre environments, focusing on stability, security and measurable outcomes.

You will work across Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, virtualization, storage and backup, with emphasis on observability and automation to reduce risk and incident noise.

Qualifications

• Strong operational knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and core datacentre services.
• Strong technical knowledge of on-premises and datacentre services, including server platforms, virtualisation, storage, backup, identity and core infrastructure technologies.
• Proven experience supporting Windows and/or Linux server environments, covering configuration, troubleshooting, patching, hardening and lifecycle management.
• Experience operating enterprise virtualisation, storage, backup and recovery platforms, with a sound understanding of availability, capacity, resilience and recovery requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor service health using alerts, logs, and metrics to identify degradation early.
• Investigate and resolve incidents across Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, and related services.
• Manage incidents, service requests, changes and operational tasks per service commitments.
• Support root-cause analysis and permanent fixes, avoiding workarounds.
• Carry out patching, configuration changes, vulnerability remediation, and routine maintenance.
• Support upgrades, migrations, hardware refreshes, and transition of environments to managed service support.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work and reduce operational risk.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and knowledge articles.
• Collaborate with service management, customers, suppliers and specialists to resolve issues across connected services.
