Job summary

Sword is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our Managed Services team in Manchester. You will support and improve customer systems across on‑premise and datacentre environments, taking ownership to prevent issues rather than react to tickets.

Responsibilities include monitoring, incident resolution, patching, upgrades and automation, with a focus on stability, security and measurable improvements. Strong ITIL awareness is expected.

Qualifications

• Five+ years' experience supporting systems infrastructure in enterprise, managed services or outsourcing environments.
• ITIL Foundation or equivalent service-management qualification.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP and core datacentre services.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support across on-premise and datacentre environments.
• Monitor service health using alerts, logs and metrics to detect degradation early.
• Investigate incidents across Windows/Linux servers and related services.
• Manage incidents, changes and service requests against commitments and priorities.
• Perform patching, configuration changes and vulnerability remediation.
• Support migrations, hardware refreshes and onboarding of new environments.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve reliability.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and SOPs.
