Job summary

A leading defense contractor in Barrow-in-Furness is seeking an experienced engineer to design and assist in building prototypes and systems. Responsibilities include system validation, problem solving, and applying Control Systems Engineering practices. Job description
What you’ll be doing:
  • Designing and assisting in the build of prototypes, products and systems suitable for testing, including the development of new products using novel technologies
  • System and sub-system validation and verification, including supporting system design reviews.
  • Component/interface specification and selection
  • Application of Control Systems Engineering practices to ensure design safety, reliability, integration and performance requirements are met
  • Tailor and develop Systems Engineering practices to suit the needs of a particular project / programme of work
  • Problem solving and providing timely corrective actions on all assigned defects and issues
Your skills and experiences:
Essentials
  • Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering or Systems discipline or significant equivalent industry experience
  • Mechanical/Electrical/Software background, with working experience on complex engineering projects
  • Experience of system design using MATLAB/Simulink, particularly of control systems
  • Practical experience of systems integration, installation and commissioning
  • Understanding and experience working with system communication protocols, e.g. CAN bus
Desirables
  • Working knowledge of autonomous systems
  • Working knowledge and application of model-based systems engineering (MBSE)
