Job description

Introduction

Are you a naturally empathetic, caring, and compassionate Healthcare Assistant or Support Worker in the UK with experience caring for people with learning disabilities?

Do you want a fulfilling career where you can make a difference and change lives for the better in a culture of kindness and teamwork? You’ll be supported with development opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.

Join School House as a Team Leader to provide care for people with severe learning disabilities, Autism, and behaviors that may be seen as challenging. You’ll support and encourage service users to lead full and valued lives, enabling them to live more independently.

You’ll be great with people—a real ‘people person’—able to communicate effectively, explaining yourself clearly in the right tone to suit the situation, and understanding others' behaviors and expressions. Having a good sense of humor, resilience, and a willingness to support residents with personal hygiene are also important.

What you will be doing:

You will join an inclusive, supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use your excellent communication skills and experience as a Team Leader with a background in Learning Disabilities & Autism to support people through their care pathway. It can be challenging at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience, and vigilance are essential. It is hugely rewarding to see people improve because of your support—doing something today they couldn’t do last week.

You will work on a 3-week rolling rota with a mix of early and late shifts: one week of morning shifts (07:00 to 15:30) with days off on Monday, Saturday, and Sunday; one week of afternoon shifts (13:30 to 21:30) with days off on Wednesday and Thursday; and one week of mixed shifts (e.g., morning on Monday, off Tuesday, afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday, off Friday, morning on Saturday and Sunday).

As a Team Leader, you will have:

  • Ideally have or be working towards NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care
  • Hold a valid UK driving license (preferred for community visits)
  • Strong empathy and a caring, compassionate nature
  • Willingness to support residents with personal hygiene
  • Excellent people and communication skills, with a good sense of humor
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviors
  • A positive and professional approach
  • Reliability, flexibility, hard work, and honesty
  • Local or within a commutable distance to the location

You must live in the UK and have the Right to Work in the UK full-time. 20-hour Student and Skilled Worker Visas cannot be accepted.

Where you will be working:

Location: School House, School Walk, Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, TW16 6RB

You will support people who may be living with moderate learning disabilities, associated health needs, autism, and behaviors. Your role involves promoting social inclusion through meaningful community engagement, helping residents develop social networks, and participating in activities to support purposeful lives.

What you will get:

  • Annual salary of £25,350 (£13 per hour)
  • Equivalent of 33 days annual leave plus your birthday off
  • Free meals and parking in local streets
  • Wellbeing support and activities to maintain a great work-life balance
  • Career development and training opportunities
  • Pension contributions
  • Life assurance
  • Enhanced maternity package

Additional benefits include retail discounts, special offers, and more.

About your next employer:

You will work for an established, stable, and agile company with over 8,000 employees and a unique approach to care. With over 90 services across England and Wales covering Mental Health, Neurological, Learning Disabilities & Autism, and Children & Education, there are opportunities for growth and advancement.
