Job summary

SSEN Transmission in Scotland is recruiting a Senior Substation Engineer to lead development of substations from 33kV to 400kV and to integrate HVDC systems. You will review designs, provide technical leadership, and drive engineering risk management across projects.

The role is based in Scotland, requiring 50% office presence across Aberdeen, Perth, Inverness or Glasgow. The package includes a salary of £59,800–£89,800 plus car or car allowance, a performance-related bonus and a comprehensive

Qualifications

• Strong experience in substation, transmission or complex electrical infrastructure design.
• Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards and design requirements (CDM).
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve primary substation designs up to 400 kV.
• Provide senior technical input and risk management in engineering decisions.
• Lead and coach Project Engineers within the Substation Engineering team.
• Collaborate with consultants, contractors and supply-chain partners to ensure high-quality outcomes.
