Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead technical work on major AC transmission projects across Scotland, including 33kV to 400kV substations. The role emphasizes design review, technical leadership and risk management within a growing offshore-to-onshore engineering team.

You will review primary designs, influence engineering specifications, and mentor engineers while coordinating with consultants and partners to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in substation or transmission design.
• Understanding of CDM and related regulations.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to stakeholders.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering; Chartered status advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve substation designs up to 400kV during development and delivery.
• Provide senior technical input to engineering decisions and manage risk.
• Influence solutions across the project portfolio through peer review and collaboration.
• Provide technical leadership and coaching to Project Engineers within Substation Engineering.
• Collaborate with consultants, contractors and delivery partners to ensure high-quality outcomes.
