Job summary

SSE in Scotland is recruiting a Senior Substation Engineer to lead technical design and delivery of major AC infrastructure, including substations from 33kV to 400kV. You’ll shape engineering solutions, manage risk and collaborate with a wide range of partners to support Scotland’s energy transition.

The role requires expertise in substations, grid control, and HVDC interfaces, with an emphasis on leadership, standards compliance and clear communication with technical and non-technical

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress towards chartership is advantageous.
• Experience with substation and complex electrical infrastructure design.
• Understanding of CDM and applicable engineering standards.
• Strong communication to influence technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve primary substation designs up to 400 kV.
• Provide senior technical input to engineering decisions.
• Influence solutions across project portfolio through peer review.
• Provide technical leadership and coaching to Project Engineers.
• Collaborate with consultants, contractors and supply-chain partners.
