Job summary

SSE is seeking a Senior Substation Design Engineer based in Scotland to lead the technical development of major electricity transmission infrastructure, from 33kV to 400kV, supporting Scotland’s transition to Net Zero. You will join the Offshore AC Project Engineering team and help shape design across island projects.

You will review primary substation designs, provide senior input to decisions, and mentor Project Engineers while collaborating with consultants and contractors to ensure

Qualifications

• Strong experience in substation, transmission or complex electrical infrastructure design.
• Understanding of relevant engineering standards and design requirements (CDM).
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve primary substation designs from up to 400kV, including single line diagrams and electrical layouts.
• Provide senior technical input into engineering decisions to improve specifications and manage risk.
• Influence solutions across the project portfolio through peer review and collaborative decision-making.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching and support to Project Engineers to build team capability.
• Collaborate with engineering consultants, contractors and supply-chain partners to ensure high-quality outcomes.
