Job summary

SSE is seeking a Senior Substation Design Engineer based in Scotland, with a strong background in substation and electrical infrastructure design. You will lead technical work across Island projects, delivering 33kV–400kV substations and interfacing with HVDC systems.

You will review designs, provide senior technical input, and mentor Project Engineers while coordinating with consultants and contractors to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in substation or complex electrical infrastructure design.
• Understanding of relevant standards and design requirements (CDM).
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve primary substation designs up to 400kV, including single line diagrams and electrical layouts.
• Provide senior technical input and manage engineering risk.
• Influence solutions across the project portfolio via technical reviews and collaboration.
• Provide technical leadership and coaching to Project Engineers.
