Job summary

Novax Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Structural Steel Estimator for a specialist steelwork contractor in Newport. You will prepare accurate, commercially competitive estimates from initial enquiry through tender submission, reading drawings and evaluating fabrication and erection costs.

You will work closely with engineering, project management, procurement and commercial teams to identify risks and ensure tenders are submitted on time, helping secure profitable projects.

Qualifications

• Proven structural steel estimating experience.
• Experience pricing both fabricated and erected steelwork.
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings.
• Good understanding of structural steel fabrication processes.
• Experience calculating steelwork quantities and producing accurate take-offs.
• Experience preparing tenders from initial enquiry through to submission.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs.
• Ability to identify potential risks, exclusions and additional costs.
• Experience obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Confidence dealing with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review incoming structural steel tender enquiries.
• Analyse structural drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
• Prepare detailed estimates and commercial quotations.
• Complete accurate quantities and take-offs for structural steelwork.
• Price materials, fabrication, labour and installation.
• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Compare quotations to ensure best commercial solution.
• Identify exclusions, assumptions and project risks.
• Clarify technical and commercial requirements with clients/contractors.
• Work with engineering, project management, procurement and commercial teams.
• Ensure tenders are accurate, competitive and submitted on time.
• Support post-tender reviews and improve estimating processes.
