Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior/Principal Structural Engineer to support the UK nuclear and defence programme, delivering robust heavy civil structures and reinforced concrete/steel systems.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and cultivate strong client relationships with organisations such as EDF, MoD, Rolls‑Royce SMR. Hybrid working is offered, with office/sites across London, Birmingham, Manchester, and more.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• Chartered Engineer status through ICE, IStructE or similar.
• Proven experience in design and delivery of heavy civil structures in nuclear/defence or other regulated sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate teams of structural engineers on major nuclear/defence projects, ensuring safe, high-quality delivery.
• Provide technical leadership for design of heavy civil structures (reinforced concrete, steel, foundations, underground).
• Produce, review and oversee technical outputs (calculations, reports, specifications, drawings).
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and international delivery centres to deliver integrated solutions.
• Apply engineering judgement to resolve complex technical challenges during project delivery.
• Mentor engineers and graduates to foster technical excellence and growth.
• Build strong client relationships and contribute to successful project outcomes.
