Job summary

WSP in Birmingham invites a structural engineer to join our Structures Midlands team, delivering multi‑disciplinary design across healthcare, commercial, education, retail and rail sectors.

You will lead design packages, supervise technicians in 3D modelling, and work with other engineers to deliver robust, coordinated solutions. Site visits for inspections are part of the role, supporting a safe, compliant delivery.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with progressing Chartered status (MIStructE / MICE)
• Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and Eurocodes
• Experience with analytical techniques and design software
• Interest in low-carbon design and embodied carbon assessment
• Proactive, responsible and supportive of junior team members
• Security clearance prior to appointment

Responsibilities

• Undertake structural engineering design for discrete work packages and produce reports, calculations and specifications
• Supervise technicians in creating 3D models and drawings communicating structural solutions
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated designs
• Communicate design solutions verbally and in writing through sketches and presentations
• Visit sites to conduct construction phase inspections and assess existing structures
