Job summary

WSP in Birmingham invites a structural engineer to join our Structures Midlands team, delivering multi‑disciplinary design across healthcare, commercial, education, retail and rail sectors.

You will lead design packages, supervise technicians in 3D modelling, and work with other engineers to deliver robust, coordinated solutions. Site visits for inspections are part of the role, supporting a safe, compliant delivery.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with progressing Chartered status (MIStructE / MICE)
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and Eurocodes
  • Experience with analytical techniques and design software
  • Interest in low-carbon design and embodied carbon assessment
  • Proactive, responsible and supportive of junior team members
  • Security clearance prior to appointment

Job Description

WSP is a leading engineering firm offering an opportunity to design structural solutions across diverse sectors including healthcare, commercial, education, retail and rail. The role is based in Birmingham with our Structures Midlands team of over 20 people.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake structural engineering design for discrete work packages, producing reports, calculation packages and specifications.
  • Supervise technicians in the production of 3D models and drawings that communicate structural solutions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated design solutions.
  • Communicate design solutions verbally, through sketching, drawing, writing and presentations.
  • Visit sites to conduct construction phase inspections and assess existing structures.

  • Working knowledge of structural engineering principles and Eurocodes.
