Job summary

Calibre Search is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its Building Structures team in Edinburgh or Glasgow, with hybrid working. You’ll lead technical delivery on diverse projects across Scotland and the UK, taking concepts from feasibility to detailed design and ensuring quality across the full lifecycle.

You will design using steel, concrete, timber and masonry, mentor junior staff, and work within multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered status with IStructE, ICE or an equivalent professional body - essential.
• Experience designing structures using steel, concrete, timber and/or masonry.
• Strong knowledge and application of Eurocodes.
• Experience working on building structures projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage your own workload.
• Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for sharing ideas and knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop structural concepts through to detailed design.
• Apply technical expertise across building structures and design scenarios.
• Design structures using steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
• Deliver projects within programme, cost and quality requirements.
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Undertake technical research, data collection and analysis.
• Prepare and present technical findings to clients and stakeholders.
• Produce high-quality technical reports and design documentation.
• Attend site visits, inspections and design team meetings.
• Support technical reviews and assessments of existing buildings and assets.
• Ensure compliance with quality assurance procedures.
• Work with BIM standards and digital delivery requirements.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
• Contribute to innovative engineering approaches.
