IonQ, Inc. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the non-realtime controllers team in Oxford. You will own hardware control surface areas end to end, from device protocol to reliable fleet services.

The role is hands-on and collaborative with software, systems, and quantum scientists to ensure robust operation of quantum hardware across our fleet. You should have strong Linux experience and the ability to work with hardware interfaces; Rust experience or willingness to adopt Rust in a

Qualifications

• Experience with Linux-based systems and hardware interfacing.
• Strong systems engineering with Rust or willingness to learn Rust in a large codebase.
• Experience designing/operating networked services (gRPC/REST) and observability.

Responsibilities

• Own a group of device controllers end to end, including API design and health.
• Make services robust against instrument failures and edge cases.
• Bring devices onto the current framework and roll out fleet-wide.
• Improve shared framework to address common problems across controllers.
• Collaborate with systems teams and scientists; enhance observability and alerting.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and raise code quality through reviews.
