Role: Senior Service Designer
Pay Rate: £458.92 per day PAYE, paid holiday and pension contributions
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Length: 6 months
Location: London SW6
Hybrid Role: 3 days on site

I am seeking a Senior Service Designer to play a key role within a national digital, data and technology function supporting a high‑profile, mission‑critical programme. The team is responsible for guiding the effective use of data, analysis and technology, ensuring services are lawful, ethical, proportionate and trusted.

You will work in complex and sensitive environments, shaping and delivering service design across major programmes while helping establish new processes and ways of working. Collaboration is central to this role, working closely with programme.null delivery, service transition, operations and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

As a senior practitioner, you will operate with minimal supervision, while mentoring and guiding other designers and contributing to the overall maturity of service design capability.

This role aligns to Senior Service Designer within the Government Digital and Data (GDD) Framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct service design activity for major programme work, in partnership with the Service Design Lead
  • Mentor and provide professional direction to Service Designers, Junior Service Designers and Service Acceptance colleagues
  • Ensure service design is clear, simple and focused on delivering value to users
  • Clearly document design decisions, assumptions and associated risks
  • Enable effective and consistent dialogue between users, programme management, service delivery and service operations
  • Champion ITIL 4, Agile and Continual Service Improvement practices
  • Work closely with Service Transition colleagues to ensure services are transitioned effectively into live operation
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Proven experience designing services to meet user needs
  • Strong understanding of service design methods and best practice
  • Experience using data and user feedback to design and improve services
  • Experience taking designs through to live, functioning services
  • Broad design background with knowledge of user research, UX and interaction design
  • Experience mentoring and guiding colleagues
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Knowledge and experience of ITFRINGEMENT 4
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile delivery
  • Knowledge of PRINCE2 and/or other project delivery frameworks
  • Good understanding of IT hardware layers and common deployment models
  • Ability to prioritise, make sound decisions and work effectively in high‑pressure environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Experience
  • Service design experience within the public sector and/or criminal justice পোস্ট system
  • Experience leading or managing teams
  • ITIL vconc vs V ראשון–4 conversion certification
  • Experience working within secure police or public sector environments
Additional Requirements
  • Security Clearance: Candidates must hold Developed Vetting (DV) is mandatory
