Job summary

IonQ is seeking a Senior Systems Software Engineer for its Oxford, UK location. You will join the Runtime Software team and work with experimental scientists to implement real-time control behaviours and abstractions for experiments, enabling fault-tolerant computation and bringing systems closer to a quantum computer.

You will shape core Rust libraries and the execution environment, collaborating across teams to integrate hardware with software and to iterate rapidly in a demanding scientific

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in one or more mainstream languages.
• Experience with systems programming.
• Experience with real-time Linux or embedded systems or low-latency environments.
• Interest in Rust or experience with Rust.
• Excellent communication within software teams and across disciplines.
• Comfortable with evolving requirements and fast iteration.
• Commitment to high-quality code reviews and testing.
• Desire to maximise impact through rapid learning.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with scientists to understand requirements.
• Interface with system orchestration, non-realtime control, and compiler teams.
• Interface with FPGA and electronics teams to shape system architecture.
• Develop drivers for real-time devices.
• Create tooling to enable rapid iteration for users of our code.
• Develop the execution environment for user programs.
• Continuously evaluate and improve APIs for internal users.
