Job summary

Amey Consulting in the UK seeks a Principal Engineer to lead technical teams across rail projects, shaping design and safety standards for major infrastructure schemes. You will guide calculations, drawings and documentation, ensuring quality, cost and programme targets are met.

The role requires extensive experience in rail engineering, CDM compliance and people leadership, with Chartered status or equivalent. Hybrid working options and a broad benefits package are provided.

Qualifications

High level experience and expertise within the relevant technical field.
Ability to produce and lead technically sound engineering solutions.
Experience of managing health and safety per CDM regulations.
Capable of acting as engineering lead for a project (CEM for Network Rail schemes).
Design team lead across minor and major projects.
Proficient with engineering software and analytical tools; checks work and validates tools.
Strong CDM/risk assessment knowledge; manage hazards and risk mitigation.
People management across dispersed teams and accounts.

Responsibilities

Act as technical team leader, advising and supervising teams, managers, clients and suppliers.
Lead preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
Own budgets and costs associated with deliverables.
Liaise with client and supplier representatives; present proposals and attend progress meetings.
Lead bids and prepare technical and commercial offers.
Drive health and safety practices within the team.
