Job summary

Amey Consulting is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead technical teams in Rail consulting projects across UK locations. You will oversee design deliverables, risk assessments and client engagement, ensuring quality, cost control and schedule adherence.

You will bring Chartered or Incorporated status, extensive rail engineering experience, and a track record of leading bids and health & safety practices. Hybrid working options and career progression are offered.

Qualifications

• High level experience in rail engineering, likely in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
• Ability to lead technically and manage design, calculations, drawings and documentation.
• Experience managing health, safety and welfare per IM and CDM regs.
• Capable of acting as engineering lead on Network Rail schemes when required.
• Proven knowledge of design and specification processes and project scope.
• Proficient with relevant software and analytical tools; ability to validate new tools.
• Incorporated or Chartered professional status or equivalent license.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical team leader, providing advice and supervision to teams, managers, clients and suppliers.
• Lead preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings to meet quality, cost and programme.
• Manage budgets and controll costs for deliverables within the project portfolio.
• Engage with client and supplier representatives; present proposals and attend progress meetings.
• Contribute to bids and work-winning activities, preparing technical and commercial offers.
• Promote effective health and safety practices within the team.
